According to Ecuador’s National Electoral Council, Manabí will be one of the provinces that introduce electronic voting as a pilot project in the elections scheduled for February 2017.

The pilot will also include Guayas, Pichincha, Azuay and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. Forecasts place the total of number of machines that will be used for the 2017 elections at 30,000.

The process has also garnered technological support from the UNASUR (Union of South American Nations) countries that are already using electronic voting successfully. The adoption of the system will help reduce the use of paper, minimizing the impact on the environment.

The automation of the voting process will also provide quick results.
