María Marván, counselor of the Mexican Federal Electoral Institute (IFE by its acronym in Spanish) asserted that the institution is ready to employ electronic ballot boxes in the upcoming elections, after the diverse pilot tests that have been performed in Mexico during the last year. All that is needed is for the Legislative Power to green light the project.

Other IFE counselors have expressed their approval of the electronic ballot box system. Marco Antonio Baños and Macarita Elizondo pointed out that this system would reduce costs as well as the amount of time needed to reveal the preliminary results of the elections.

The counselors agreed that the resolution to adopt electronic voting is no longer depending on solving technological issues or clarifying the benefits it will bring. The new challenge is to create the political back up for this initiative.
