Colombia electronic votingIn order to maximize efficiency and guarantee the transparency of electronic voting, Colombia needs to automate all the processes that precede voting.

According to Carlos Sanchez, the State’s National Registrar, “it is of no use having electronic voting if the preceding processes are manual and prone to manipulation. We must have only one line to guarantee the systematization of voting in Colombia.”

The process will start with the creation of a permanent record of all registered voters. Once the database is created, all the registry offices in Colombia should have fingerprint readers to allow for a biometric identification of every citizen who goes to register him or herself, enabling them to prove that voters are who they claim to be.
