According to estimates by the Costa Rican government, at least 12,000 citizens living abroad could vote in the upcoming presidential election on February 2, 2014 using an Internet voting system.

This new I-voting system will be implemented in 35 consulates and will enable people to cast their ballots using a smart tablet equipped with a touchscreen. The machines will then send the results to the electoral committee. The government calculates that more than 70% of the electorate lives in the United States, followed by Canada and Mexico.
