In a recent report, a group of digital experts from the Labour Party recommended the implementation of an internet-based voting system for future elections in the UK.
The report points out that the adoption of this voting system could potentially increase voter turnout. Electronic voting should be applied to both national and local elections.
On the other hand, Labour Party’s delegates have announced their intention to propose the introduction of electronic voting as a mechanism to promote democracy.
Furthermore, the report highlights the need of a new government approach including expansion of the use of digital technology to all public services. In this way a future government would move toward a more inclusive model of democracy, fit for the 21st century UK.
