The Supreme Tribunal of Pakistan has ordered the Electoral Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice to adopt the necessary means for the implementation of an e-voting system for citizens residing abroad for the upcoming elections.
Four major steps have been outlined for this task: First, the Pakistan Electoral Commission (PEC) must prepare a project, necessary for the issuing of an ordinance; the second step requires making arrangements for the foreign missions to be carried out so that they register voters abroad as soon as possible; the third step will be the acquisition of permits from countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where there are strict restrictions against political assemblies; the fourth and last step will be speeding up the visa process for officials and personnel of electoral tables who will visit the countries where they will establish voting centers.
