The director of the Peruvian National Office for Electoral Processes (ONPE), Mariano Cucho, has announced that implementation of electronic voting will improve the electoral process in the country. He said that the switch to e-voting will accelerate the process of counting votes and generate savings for the Peruvian state.

Other benefits cited include facilitating the voting process for people with physical disabilities and a reduction in the number of polling stations. The move is also expected to increase voter participation among Peruvians living abroad.
