The Belgian government opted for the advanced voting system designed by Smartmatic since, according to them, it is adapted to Belgian needs and  European regulations. Smartmatic’s voting system will be used in the regions of Brussels and Flanders.

The decision to use Smartmatic came with a long tender process which took over two years, including a certification of the Pricewaterhouse Coopers firm, and an evaluation in real environment undertaken last 27th of October 2011 in the Flanders region and in the capital region of Brussels which largely demonstrated the correct functioning of Smartmatic’s solution. According to the first opinion polls, government representatives in Belgium and the voters described the new system as simple and easy to use.
