Germán Vargas Lleras, Colombian Minister of Interior Affairs declared that the Government will guarantee the electronic voting system in the entire country for the 2014 elections when congressmen and the President will be elected.
The minister pointed out that Colombian electoral law needs to adapt to new times and that the proposal they have for the electoral code is for “the general rule to be voting with electronic terminals and for electronic voting to be operational in the zoned municipalities”.
In the minister’s own words:
“The electronic voting makes fraud almost impossible, prevents human error, reduces the high risks encountered in the electoral material transportation and speeds up the whole process: the voting, the count and, obviously, the announcement of the results”
