The National Electoral Council in Ecuador used the electronic vote for the first time in the elections of five members of the parish church La Esmeralda from the canton Montalvo (Los Ríos).
It is without a doubt an important step forward for this nation, which used the Smartmatic technology electronic voting system during this test project where several authorities were elected.
The citizens who used this system were able to validate its easy and correct functioning and noted the fast results reception.
For this voting system’s implementation -on a national scale- the electoral body foresees an inversion of 120 million USD. Smartmatic designed a version of the voting software adapted to the Ecuadorian electoral entity requirements which allowed to provide the voter with the blank voting option.
