The Election Committee has decided to use electronic voting machines again in the upcoming local elections.
On Wednesday, the committee requested that approximately 1,230 electronic voting machines should be prepared for the upcoming elections for various local governmental authorities.
The committee, lead by Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, had suspended the use of electronic voting machines in response to protests by the opposition. However, the effectiveness of these machines was demonstrated in the elections of Chittagong City Corporation in a pilot project that was carried out with the technical support of the TIC Institute of the Engineering and Technology Department at the University of Bangladesh (BUET).
It was subsequently used in the elections for local government bodies, including Narayanganj, Comilla, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet.
