The Xunta de Galicia (autonomous government of Galicia) finds electronic voting very efficient and the recount immediate while mail voting for expatriates is thought to make things difficult for voters.
When the expatriate voting system was approved it intended to provide transparency to the voting system for emigrants staying outside Spain, which has always brought fraud suspicions. This system ensures the identification of the electorate and reduces the risks of vote manipulation.
The complexity of the process resulted in reducing numbers of expatriates deciding to take part in their country’s elections. Galicia therefore asks for this method, which makes the process so difficult, to be replaced with an electronic voting process.
Its reliability and speed make it a very suitable voting means for expatriates.
